Meet the Member: Kristin H.

How did you get involved with @HOME Bible Study? For years, I had heard about Thursday Bible Study and my interest was piqued.  As the membership grew in size and my schedule allowed me to do more than one study, I wanted to be a part of it, and learn from the wise women who were leading it. I love the challenging questions and the lectures given by women I know and admire.

What has been your favorite study and why?  Every study is my favorite as I am in the middle of it, so I'll list Hebrews and Thessalonians now as my favorite as I had never studied these books in depth, and the lessons revealed have been so topical. Paul’s love for his church in Thessalonica is so endearing.

What is your “go to” Bible verse, or story from the Bible that inspires you and why? Well, there are so many and it all depends on my need at the moment, but today, I would say Isaiah 40:31. “Yet those who wait for the Lord will gain new strength; They will mount up with wings like eagles, They will run and not get tired, They will walk and not become weary.”  When I rest in the Lord, He gives me strength, He guides me and He will never let go of me.  This verse helps me remember that God cares for me and will be by my side at all times, helping me to soar whether life is complicated or smooth sailing.

What do you hope to gain through Bible Study, for how do you hope to grow in your relationship with Christ? The more I study the Bible, the more I want to learn.  His Word is alive and meets me where I am.  Growing in faith means I rely upon the Lord more and more, and helps me to look at life’s difficulties through a different lens, knowing God’s plan is better than mine and will get me through the rough times.

When, and how, do you make time for Bible Study in your day? My day begins with devotionals and prayer time.  A Diary of Private Prayer by John Baillie has become my favorite way to begin my prayer time and end my day. Reading devotionals by Jim Denison, Max Lucado, and Paul Tripp are an uplifting part of my morning routine, too, as they are delivered to my inbox, but nothing is better than actually reading the Bible for myself and seeing how the verses inspire and guide me.

How has studying God’s Word impacted your work, social life, or family dynamic? When I am in the Word, there is a peace I feel and hopefully reflect to everyone I come in contact with.  When I turn to the Bible, it changes my attitude, the way I look at problems or blessings.
What has brought you joy this past week?Cooking dinner with my husband gave me great joy this week. The time provided us a chance to laugh and chat about so many different topics. Life gets busy, television and social media interfere, so it's important to make time to be present and listen to each other.
